The Local’s Guide to Fall: Best Arizona Pumpkin Patches, Farm Days & Harvest Festivals
While the rest of the country is trading green leaves for snow shovels, October in Arizona marks the start of our best outdoor season. The triple digits are behind us, patio mornings are crisp, and local farms across the state transform into full autumn celebrations.
Whether you’re a long-time local looking for a weekend tradition or new to Arizona, here is your curated guide to the best pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and fall festivals across Arizona.
1. The East Valley Classic: Schnepf Farms Pumpkin & Chili Party
Location: Queen Creek
Best For: All-day family fun, vintage rides, and evening bonfires
Schnepf Farms hosts arguably the largest and most beloved fall festival in the state. Held Thursdays through Sundays throughout October, the Pumpkin & Chili Party features roller coasters, train rides, pig races, and a massive 10-acre corn maze. Don’t miss grabbing a bowl of their homemade chili, fresh cider donuts, or a s’mores kit to roast over the open fire pits once the sun sets over the San Tan Mountains.
Local Tip: Buy tickets online in advance because weekend time slots often sell out. If you prefer smaller crowds, Thursday afternoons are much calmer.
2. The High-Country Road Trip: Mortimer Farms Pumpkin Fest & Corn Maze
Location: Dewey-Humboldt (just outside Prescott)
Best For: Cooler mountain air, authentic u-pick fields, and real farm charm
If you’re craving true crisp fall weather, make the drive up to Mortimer Farms. Sitting at an elevation of roughly 4,500 feet, the daytime air is noticeably cooler. You can pick pumpkins straight off the vine, navigate their huge corn maze, watch pig races, and sample house-smoked BBQ and fresh apple cider.
Local Tip: Turn it into a day trip! Stop in downtown Prescott for a stroll around the historic Courthouse Plaza and grab coffee or lunch on the square on your way back.
3. The West Valley Tradition: Tolmachoff Farms Pumpkin Days
Location: Glendale
Best For: Authentic four-generation family farm feel without leaving town
Tucked away in Glendale, Tolmachoff Farms is a working farm that opens up every October with a giant 6-acre corn maze, a mini-maze for the little ones, a petting zoo, train rides, and a massive pumpkin patch. For older kids and brave adults, they also host the haunted "AZ Field of Screams" after dark on weekend nights.
Local Tip: Check out their produce stand on your way out to grab locally grown winter squash and seasonal veggies.
4. Desert Charm in North Scottsdale: MacDonald's Ranch
Location: North Scottsdale
Best For: Western heritage, hayrides, and easy toddler fun
For a classic Western twist on autumn, head north to MacDonald's Ranch. Kids can pan for gold, navigate a hay bale maze, ride pedal carts, and take an authentic horse-drawn hayride out into the desert wash to pick out their pumpkin. It’s low-stress, friendly, and quintessential Arizona.
Local Tip: They are closed on Tuesdays. Arrive early on weekend mornings to beat the midday sun and get the best parking.
5. Fresh & Local: The Fall Reopening of Valley Farmers Markets
October also signals the return of peak farmers market season in the desert! As local growers harvest their fall crops, weekend markets swell with fresh produce, local honey, fresh flowers, and artisan baked goods. A few local favorites worth adding to your Saturday or Sunday routine:
Uptown Farmers Market (Phoenix): Saturdays and Wednesdays. Expect great food trucks, local pastries, and live music under the trees.
Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market: Saturdays. This market features over 100 local growers and specialty food purveyors.
Gilbert Farmers Market: Saturdays. You will find this market located next to the iconic water tower in the downtown Heritage District.
